The wood, also known as Avon Banks Wood, is classified as an ancient (of semi-natural origin Antiquity type 1a) wood and has been noted on maps as far back as the 1750&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>Along the walk you will pass through the \u00a0grounds of the former Birkhill Fireclay Mine Processing Plant, since demolished, you will notice that there are a few information panels about the mine and its workings. If you decide to wait for the next train there are a\u00a0 picnic tables to rest at.<\/p>\n<p>Leaflets are available in the station waiting room at Birkhill and also at Bo&#8217;ness, if travelling by train and are unsure of the time you have before the trainarrives back from Manuel, please check with the guard or Station Master.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">The Walk starts from Birkhill Station Platform:<a href=\"http:\/\/www.srpsbirkhillgroup.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Walk-1-Short.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-427 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.srpsbirkhillgroup.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Walk-1-Short-207x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"399\" height=\"578\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.srpsbirkhillgroup.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Walk-1-Short-207x300.jpg 207w, https:\/\/www.srpsbirkhillgroup.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Walk-1-Short.jpg 475w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 399px) 100vw, 399px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">1.<\/span><span style=\"font: 7pt 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0px; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">Follow the signs to the <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">Woodland. This path takes you towards the grounds of the former mine buildings where the fireclay was processed ready for shipment. You will pass a picnic area and a number of information boards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">2.<\/span><span style=\"font: 7pt 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0px; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">Follow the path as it heads round to your right and you will arrive at the top of the steps that the\u00a0workers used to reach the old mine workings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">3.<\/span><span style=\"font: 7pt 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0px; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">The route continues left in a southerly direction along the gorge ridge. Continue along this path until you reach a picnic table.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">4.<\/span><span style=\"font: 7pt 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0px; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">Take the path to your right and follow the loop around the meadow area.
